Rubric for Project 3: The Rhetorical Strategies Paper
Introduction (10% - 15 points)

Leads the reader into the topic. General to narrow.

Properly introduces Carr, his article, the overall argument, and addresses intended audience.
|
|
Provides a clear road map. Use metadisourse (Indicate how you/the paper will proceed.) Includes a “pointed” thesis.
|
Body: Analysis, Evaluation, and Integration (65% - 97.5 points)
|
Accurately describes Carr’s project and argument (uses text to support)
|
|
Identifies important subclaims (uses the text to support)
|
|
Identifies two rhetorical strategies and one fallacy, connected to claims.
|
|
Accurately describes each strategy or fallacy, and uses the text well to demonstrate the strategy at play.
|
|
Analyzes how the strategy helps or hurts overall argument. Considers the effect it could have on the audience. Discusses the effectiveness.
|
Conclusion (10% - 15 points)
|
Concludes in a cohesive manner, remember the “reflected triangle.”
|
|
Restates author, title of work, acknowledging the work you’ve just done. (Tie up loose ends.)

|
Addresses the “big picture,” answers the “So What?” question. (Consider overall evaluation of the text, answering your thesis, and/or making recommendations for improvement.

Organization (10% - 15 points)
|
Organize body paragraphs around a central topic sentence that signals to the reader what that paragraph will be about.

|
Transitions between paragraphs smoothly, leading the reader to the next paragraph. Where have you come from, and where are you taking us?
|
|
Paper as a whole is generally well organized and cohesive.
|
Mechanics (5% - 7.5 points)
|
Proper MLA format (margins, line spacing, font, use of citation, Works Cited)
|
|
Errors or typos (do not interfere with readability or are in abundance)
|
|
Sentence structure and word choice does not affect readability/meaning.
