Topics Ideas - some places to begin looking

There are many topics, questions, ideas and problems you could explore based on the readings we have done.  A few examples: you
could extend or investigate Madrick's idea that the Opportunidades project (also called a conditional cash transfer program) could be adapted

to work in the U.S. Or you could explore Reich and Krugman's idea that extreme inequality leads to political "capture," or disproportionate 
influence  by the wealthy which they use to write laws and regulations that lock in their advantages. 

You could also use contemporary documentaries, reports, stories or research to a) connect to one of the texts we have already

read, and b) extend, qualify, illustrate or challenge one of the positions in the debate.

Data for Analysis/Evaluation & For Student Arguments

Students can look at what has happened since the texts were published, and use this to evaluate some of the texts, and make their own argument. Eg new data on inequality from Harvard and Berkeley studies. The Harvard study below could be used to argue that many of the claims we have read, which stake out different political positions, have (to varying degrees) some validity.
